Holden Beach 

One of North Carolina's most beautiful barrier islands, and rated one of the best family beaches in the country by National Geographic Traveler magazine. Also, rated one of the top 30 beaches in the country, in 2004 by AAA Beach Vacation Travel Journal, and in 2005, USA Today named Holden Beach as one of the top ten family beaches.  According to our County Chamber of Commerce, Holden Beach  officially received National Healthy Beach status through the National Healthy Beaches Campaign.

Holden Beach is nestled between the Lockwood Folly Inlet and the Shallotte River Inlet, south of the Atlantic Ocean.  It is a 11 mile long island and there are approximately 900 permanent residents, to some of the most beautiful homes in the area.

A great time to visit the beach is during one of its annual festivals, A Day at the Docks in April or Festival by the Sea in October.  Enjoy the few small, locally owned stores, a post office, and a handful of dining establishments, located all on the island to sustain residents on a day-to-day basis.

For everyone's convenience, the island provides ample parking, public showers and handicap ramps. Enjoy the fishing pier, marina, and boat landing, and other sport activities such as skiing, boat riding, knee boarding, and just a few miles out enjoy some of the world's finest golf courses along the coast from Wilmington, NC to Myrtle Beach, SC.  

Ocean Isle Beach

Ocean Isle Beach is located a few miles away from the North Carolina and South Carolina state line along the Atlantic Ocean. It is one of North Carolina's southermost barrier islands, just over seven miles, and home to approximately 426 full-time residents.

Enjoy the pristine beaches and the many water sports, fishing charters, public tennis courts, and within 15-20 minutes play your favorite game of golf, shop or dine at one of the local owned businesses.

SUNSET BEACH

Sunset Beach was incorporated in 1963, and is a small barrier island located at the southeast corner of North Carolina.  It is approximately 5.8 miles long and mainland and island population of about 2400, and 1200 homes. The Island is a beautiful coastal scene, with a white sandy beach and undisturbed sand dunes. It is a natural habitat and nesting ground for the coastal wildlife, such as the Loggerhead Sea Turtle and Wood Storks.

Sunset Beach and the adjoining Bird Island coastal reserve encompass a barrier island.  The only way to get there from the mainland is by way of the Intracoastal Waterway by crossing a pontoon bridge. A new 65 ft high span bridge is being built and is targeted for completion in year 2010.

Among the locals, there are numerous vacation rental cottages. A very relaxing beach to enjoy your favorite past time. Enjoy a nice walk on the beach, watersports, golfing, or charter a boat. It is also conveniently located about 25 minutes to North Myrtle Beach, SC for more attractions.
